"We have worked hard to prepare an appropriate circuit for crosscountry"
Nino Lazzarotto, the Head of the Cycling Federation’s South Tyrolean Chapter, described the national cross-country race on Mount Pana as a great publicity plug for mountain biking as a sport. The event took place for the first time in summer 2013 and was carried out by the Organising Committee of Sellaronda HERO for the first time in S Cristina. Around 150 athletes participated, just weeks before the world championship in South Africa The Nordic Ski centre of Mount Pana is now home to a new, 4km long circuit (160 hm), in the vicinity of the cross-country slopes. The race organiser, Peter Runggaldier said following on from the accomplishment: "We have worked hard to prepare an appropriate circuit for crosscountry and the former XCO World Champion, Hubert Pallhuber, has been incredibly helpful" The Elite-men’s category had to complete the circuit six times, while the Elite-women’s category 5 times. It was a demanding circuit, as it presented long, technical ascents on soft underground strewn with tree roots and rocky downhill slopes.
